How To Find The Perfect Christmas Present Idea

Each year as the holiday season comes around I am faced with the same dilemma of a Christmas present idea for my husband. As he was growing up Christmas was a stressful time due to the amount of alcohol his father consumed and the fights that this caused between his parents. As I was growing up Christmas was a joyful time filled with family gatherings, great food and gift giving. I wanted to help create better holiday memories for my husband by starting traditions of our own. One way I try to due this is to come up with a unique Christmas present idea each year.

I feel that presents should be something that the person wants but does not necessarily need. I do not think that the holiday time is a time when you should be practical with what you give to another person. This idea started for me with my mother. When I grew up we did not have very much money. Mom was always on a tight budget to meet the basic necessities for our family, but Christmas time was always made special by the gifts that she would give us. She was not extravagant in the Christmas present idea that she presented each of us with, but the gifts were always a luxury item rather than a practical item. When I was young this meant extra doll clothes or a piece of jewelry. My husband often received socks and underwear or other basic clothing needs.

It is difficult to come up with a Christmas present idea for a man. My husband does not wear cologne or jewelry. He does love to hunt and fish, but he buys himself what he needs and his birthday is in the fall of the year so I usually get him something for his outdoor hobbies at that time. A few years ago we started the tradition of putting something in each other’s Christmas stocking throughout the month of December. I found this to be a great deal of fun because I would buy special chocolates and other gourmet snack treats along with special packets of coffee for him. There have been years where his brothers and friends have given me a good Christmas present idea, but this year I have yet to think of anything. I am hoping that during one of my shopping trips I will find an item that will be unique and special. He has given me so many beautiful pieces of jewelry and other special gifts through the years, so I want to continue to surprise him. Many of the things that are advertised during the season as special gifts are out of my budget. We have set spending limits each year so that we do not end up paying for holiday gifts into the summer months. The price is not what makes these gifts special, but rather the thoughts and spirit of love in which they are presented.
