No matter what your interest, there is probably a plastic model kit available to display it. I have loved putting together plastic model kits since I was a kid. Back then, it was an opportunity to bond with my father. We would put together plastic ship model kits, as well as cars occasionally. My favorite was when we would get a plastic model kit of a tall ship. It was so much fun to put together all of the meticulously detailed pieces, from the masts to the rigging, to the individual soldiers. We would even go beyond the instructions of the plastic model kit and paint up the faces of the sailors. It was sure a lot of fun, if you ask me.

In these days, I will buy a lot of different plastic model kits depending on my mood. I have recently loved to get any kind of plastic model kit which depicts a movie monster that I am fond of. I like vampires, werewolves, zombies – you name it, I will probably be assembling a plastic model kit of it the very next weekend. It is not so much what you get out of the plastic model kit that is thrilling. Sure, it is nice to have a new diorama to put up on my shelves – everyone loves to get a new toy. But what I really like is the way that each plastic model kit comes together before my eyes. Piece by piece, I assemble out of little feet, arms, legs, and pieces of backdrop, a shape of unspeakable horror, or of romantic desire. Either way, putting together my plastic model kit feels almost a little bit like magic. That is really the mark of any good hobby, after all – the feeling that putting it together gives you something far greater than the sum of the pieces.

Of course, it is really important the your plastic model kit fits your interests. If you get someone who is not a movie buff at all some plastic model kits from movies, they will not be interested. Similarly, if you get a dedicated movie buff the coolest plastic car model kit, they will still probably not be likely to care all that much about it, period. This is why, just because you put it together does not mean that a plastic toy model has universal appeal. So, chose those Christmas presents carefully!
